Fishing with Grandpa
I'm not a great salt fisherman
I like fishin' with worms
In a nice still pond
Where I can hear my favorite birds
Like the Red-Wing Blackbird
And the Meadowlark
And of course the Whipporwill
And the Mallard Duck
And the Great Blue Heron
And the Canadian Goose
And the tiny Sparrow
And the friendly Robin
And every once in a while a Blue Jay
And now and then a Finch
And if you're real lucky a Hummingbird
And a Red-Tail Hawk
I remember fishin' with Grandpa
He liked to fish with minnows
We’d sit and fish and catch crappies
To the state lake we'd go
And every once in a while we'd catch a big bluegill
Or we might catch a bass
And sometimes when we fished on the bottom
We’d catch a catfish
Sometimes we'd go below the spillway of the big dam
And drop our line real far down below
With a gig on the end
And if we were lucky we'd catch a walleye
And hall him way up the side
And hope that somehow he didn't fall off
And then we'd take 'em home and eat 'em
After we first cleaned 'em
Grandma knew just how to cook 'em up
So they tasted real good
Fishin' with Grandpa was a lot fun
When I was a little kid
